Borders and Edges
There are three main ways to add a border effect to your page:
1) The border is a pre-made (PNG) element
Many designers put borders and edge designs in their kits. These usually come in a PNG format designed to be 12" x 12" so you just add them to your page as an element. Be warned though that they are big elements and might stop you moving what's underneath them. It's easy enough to move the border element out of the way in My Memories but you might want to wait until your page is almost done before adding the border.
This page was made with Fayette Designs' Feeling Frosty 2 and I added a glitter edge by Lindsay Jane. As you can see the edge element is quite narrow and barely encroaches on the page.

This one, on the other hand, goes nuts and covers quite a bit of the photos but it was that kind of day! Border, fish and wooden boat embellishments are from Little Butterfly Wings' Just Add Water. Cards and other elements are from Fayette Designs' Beach Therapy.
The border on this page creates a mask effect. Every scrapper who see it asks if I did it with a mask! Since the border included the large compass I added it to the page early on and then added other elements over it. Small people are from Avezieur's Sail, everything else including the border is from Scrapyrus' Anchor My Love. Scrapyrus includes borders in most of her kit bundles.
2) The border is created using a mask
We're preparing an easy tutorial showing you how to create edges with masks. It will be ready soon.
3) The border is actually on the background
In this layout the border effect is actually part of the "Hot Mess" paper from the Some Beach Somewhere collection by Fayette Designs. Fayette is brilliant at making these, I collect them all. you can find her at Pickleberry Pop. I shrunk the photo pocket top right to let some of the design show through. Cards and elements from Fayette designs' Beach Therapy kit, photo overlays from Katie Pertiet's Around Words Frames Summer.
Here I wanted the hot mess paper (from Fayette Designs' Choose to Shine) to show round the edge but not between the photos. I made the page first with a plain grey background then added it as one photo to the hot mess background - and rounded the corners. Cards are from Becky Higgins' Digital Project Life Plus One kit.
In this page the striped air mail paper would have been busy between the photos so I made my own background first by adding a plain paper to the striped background from Digital Design Essential's Par Avion kit. Photo overlay by Karla Dudley,
This was a double page layout. Look what happened next. Poor John ...
