Frequently Asked Questions
What is Pocket Scrapbooking?
On an ordinary scrapbook page you start with a large page - often 12" x 12"- and add photos and embellishments to it. You then (if it's "real" paper or a printed digi layout) put it in a 12" x 12 plastic page protector in an album. In paper style pocket scrapping the page protector is split into pockets, say 4" x 6" and 3" by 4", and you put photos and journalling/filler cards into those pockets. There is no background paper.
Digital versions have a background and are basically block layouts with photo/journal boxes where the pockets would be. You can, of course go "off piste" in digi scrapping and move the boxes around, remove them, have stuff escape etc.
What is Hybrid Pocket Scrapbooking?
Digi scrappers - and those paper scrappers who follow our tutorials - will often add things like text and embellishments to a photo before it goes in a pocket/photo box. Or they will make their own printed journalling cards from digital elements. You can even make a whole teeny digital layout, print it and put it into a pocket. Hybrid is just mixing it up!
Is this Project Life?
Project Life is a trademark owned by Becky Higgins LLC. Strictly therefore it only applies to her products - coordinated boxes of title, filler and journal cards, pocket pages and albums. Pocket scrappers will often use her products but there are other products available such as We R Memory Keepers' Albums Made Easy and Simple Stories.
OK, then what I meant to ask was "is this for daily documentation/P365/P52 etc?"
A lot of people use it for that but you can use it for anything. I make an album for a year and it's vaguely in order but I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than have to take photos every day/week and do something with them. I can barely commit to getting up and getting dressed every day...
My single/double pocket pages simply hold a group of photos just as any page would. Scrapbooking should not be a chore. I'm well known for this renegade opinion!
Do I need Photoshop/PSE?
Most template designers design for PS/PSE and if you get into pocket scrapping you might want to grab PSE when it's next on sale. We have easy tutorials to show you how to use a template. However, there are lots of photo layout templates in My Memories and Memory Mixer.
Can I do this on my phone?
Yes, you can use the very clever Project Life app. There are also various collage apps you can use.
Why do you have this site?
This site is designed to support our cruise classes just like Coastal Scrapbooks does but we hope it will be helpful to anyone interested in pocket scrapbooking.
Who owns this site?
Sharon Horswill.
Do you make money from this site?
I wish. There are a few affiliate links. Affiliate income contributes to the running costs and domains, it doesn't make a profit!
